Our Story

Since 2014, Riley has been preparing students for their standardized exams.

Originally from Snohomish, Washington, Riley attended Utah State University, where he studied Biochemistry and graduated summa cum laude in 2016. He was selected as an organic chemistry TA there due to his outstanding teaching. He also worked as an MCAT tutor for several years while applying and attending medical school, where he discovered his passion for helping students prepare for standardized exams. In 2016, he matriculated at Texas Tech, where he was awarded a merit scholarship. There, he served as a peer tutor for multiple years. He scored in the top 1% on his USMLE exams in medical school. Riley was elected into AOA as a junior medical student (top 8% of his class). Riley is a diagnostic radiology resident at the University of Washington in Seattle, and was elected Chief Resident by his peers. He enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, trail-running, golfing, and helping students fulfill their full potential.

4000+ total tutoring hours logged. For the 2018-2024 testing period, Riley’s students have had a 100% pass rate on USMLE Step 1 and averaged a 53-point increase on USMLE Step 2 CK.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do your sessions take place in person or online?

Sessions are all held online via Zoom with Riley.

How much do your student’s scores increase on average?

For USMLE Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3, my conglomerate average score increase is 53 points (this average is for students who met for 40 hours or more).

Which exams are you currently preparing students for?

Specialization produces superior results, so, unfortunately, at this time, Riley no longer offers MCAT tutoring. This is so that he can focus 100% of his time on USMLE prep and stay on top of the latest USMLE exam trends. Riley tutors for USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 CK, all the NBME shelf exams, and USMLE Step 3.

Over the past three years, approximately 40% of students have been Step 1 students, 50% were NBME shelf/Step 2 students, and 10% Step 3 students.

What does a session look like?

Sessions are 100% individualized and tailored to the student’s needs. Most of the time, this means targeted review questions with individualized detailed explanations. Questions take varying amounts of time to review depending on the student’s needs. Question review continues until the student has complete mastery of the subject.

Where are your students located?

Riley is based on the West Coast; however, due to population density and medical school locations, most of Riley’s students are from the East Coast of the United States.

~20% of Riley’s students are international students. Past international students have been from India, China, the U.K., France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Columbia, and Nigeria.

What was the overall pass rate for USMLE Step 1 in 2022?

The national USMLE Step 1 pass rate for 2022 was 82%.

Have you worked with students with learning disabilities?

Riley has helped numerous students with learning disabilities and maintained a 100% pass rate.

What is the duration and cost of a session?

Most sessions last one to two hours on average. As students near their test, the sessions are shorter. Sometimes, a session of less than an hour is all that’s needed. While not cheap, your investment in high-quality mentoring is a small fraction of your investment in medical education. For reference, the average overall cost of attending medical school is $251,599. This means my typical student spends less than 1% of their total debt on tutoring but, in return, often receives a 50+ point increase on their exam. Sessions with Riley offer the highest return on investment anywhere in medical education.

Payments are made through Square, Inc., the largest small business payments processor. All major credit cards are accepted.

Do you require me to buy a package?

Riley does not require students to buy a package.
